Dynamic Fall Protection
SafeGait's proprietary software distinguishes between a patient's intentional movement downward, (i.e., to sit) and when a patient is falling. This is Dynamic Fall Protection (DFP), the primary mode of protecting patients. DFP is always active and provides protection during standing, sitting, stair and floor tasks. The DFP Sensitivity Levels allow therapists to adjust fall protection sensitivity to accommodate patients at varying stages of independence: High, Medium, Low. Other systems have fall detection that is dependent on having the therapist set a fall distance which must be continuously corrected depending on the task, (walking, transfers, stairs). With DFP, calculations and multiple adjustments by the therapists are not required ensuring that the focus is on the patient rather than the device.
SafeGait's Descent Limit (DL) is a secondary fall protection feature that sets a maximum amount of downward travel based on the patient's position and height. The distance is scaled from 2" to 6" to accommodate patients of varying height and is automatically calculated by SafeGait's embedded software. DL can be turned on or off and adjusted by position depending on the activity. One touch adjustment from the main Task Monitoring screen is efficient and keeps the therapist's focus on the patient.
